Editorial insight
Large-scale events like Ignite play a key role in supporting youth engagement across North Yorkshire, offering opportunities beyond the routine activities of local Scout groups. By bringing together participants from different areas, such gatherings foster a sense of community and provide access to a wider range of experiences, which can be especially valuable for young people in more rural or isolated locations.
For volunteers and organisers, such events also represent significant logistical undertakings, relying on the commitment of adults from across the county. With participation numbers in the hundreds, these weekends are important touchpoints for youth organisations, both in terms of member retention and community visibility. For families and young people considering involvement, the scale and variety of activities on offer may serve as a practical demonstration of the benefits of joining.
